Johnny Christ biography

Jonathan Lewis Seward, (born November 18, 1984), better known by his stage name Johnny Christ, is the bassist of the band Avenged Sevenfold.[1] Johnny Christ was the fourth bassist to join Avenged Sevenfold in 2002, replacing former members Matt Wendt, Dameon Ash, and Justin Sane. He grew up in Huntington Beach, California.

Biography

Johnny Christ attended Marina High School in Huntington Beach, California. He proceeded through high school and eventually formally met M. Shadows, Zacky Vengeance, Synyster Gates, and The Rev (the latter two he already knew from school). Following the departure of Dameon Ash in 2002, he was invited to fill the position as Avenged Sevenfold's bassist. He is friends with Zacky Vengeance's younger brother Matt Baker[disambiguation needed]formerly from the band The Dear & Departed. In May 2009 he participated in the Gumball 3000 Rally, driving coast to coast with the Fuel Girls.

Musical career

Johnny initially took a few weeks off from high school during his senior year to fill in for Avenged Sevenfold's previous bassist, Dameon Ash, during one of their tours. These few weeks would become permanent as Johnny dropped out of high school to become the band's current bassist.
His two biggest influences are Cliff Burton (now deceased bassist for Metallica) and Duff McKagan (the bassist from Velvet Revolver and formerly Guns N Roses).[citation needed]
His playing style varies by song. He primarily uses a pick.
Johnny first recorded on their second album Waking the Fallen. He used to write only Johnny on his autographs until Zacky came up with the name 'Johnny Christ', and in All Excess he said, "That sounds... really ballsy. Everyone's gonna hate that, so... I should definitely go with that!" He resides in Huntington Beach, Orange County.

In the Avenged Sevenfold DVD "All Excess" he recalls that before Avenged Sevenfold, he played in a one time punk band called MPA*, which stood for Matt Porno Action. The Music Of Matt Porno comes through in A7X's music at least the style. He implies that they were not successful. He and M. Shadows (who at the time was singer for the band Successful Failure) formed Avenged Sevenfold. He took the name Zacky Vengeance, stating that he had grudges against many people who doubted his success. He was also responsible for the creation of the acronym "A7X". Stating that the 'A' stood for avenged, and then the 7 stood for seven and the X was for fold .[1] He is also left-handed. He taught himself how to play the guitar when he was thirteen. The guitar he first learned on was actually his dad's. He has a brother named Matt Baker who is with the band The Dear and Departed. He also has a sister named Zina Baker

M. Shadows

Matthew Charles Sanders (born July 31, 1981), better known by his stage name M. Shadows, is the lead vocalist, songwriter, and founding member for the American heavy metal/hard rock band Avenged Sevenfold. His sister is former Detroit Shock player, Amy Sanders.

 Early life and musical influence

Shadows was born Matt Sanders on July 31, 1981, in Huntington Beach, California. He attended Huntington Beach High School, where after a brief stint in the band Successful Failure, he met James Sullivan and began to form the earliest incarnations of Avenged Sevenfold.

 Avenged Sevenfold

Shadows has made guest appearances on numerous albums by various artists. He also produced The Confession's 2007 album, Requiem, which, according to an interview, was one of the first steps which led to Avenged Sevenfold self-producing their 2007 self-titled album.
In October 2002, the band announced that Shadows was experiencing problems in his vocal cords, due to their active touring, and that his doctor advised him to take a short break from touring to prevent further damage[1]. After the release of City of Evil a false rumor started circulating, saying that the reason that he dropped screaming vocals was either due to a ripped vocal cord or a blown blood vessel in the back of his throat. This, however, is not true. Despite having a blood vessel removed from his vocal cords that would flame up and close his throat he still displays some screaming and growling in songs recorded after Waking the Fallen. Examples include the opening to Critical Acclaim from their self-titled album and God Hates Us from Nightmare.[2] In an interview on All Excess, manager Larry Jacobson states that Shadows had decided two years before the making of City of Evil that it would be an all-singing album. He had made it clear to their producer, Andrew Murdock, that the album they were working on at the time, Waking the Fallen would be half singing and half screaming, and that the next would be all singing. Moreover, Jimmy "the Rev" Sullivan confirmed that M. Shadows grew tired of doing screamed vocals.[3] In the past Shadows would sing on all parts of the songs during live performances, supporting the theory that he was no longer able to perform unclean vocals. Shadows has since resumed screaming again during live performances in the songs that initially feature screamed vocals[4]. In the band's fifth album Nightmare, Shadows has also re-incorporated some screaming vocals, notably on the song "God Hates Us."

Synyster Gates

Brian Elwin Haner, Jr. (July 7, 1981), better known by his stage name Synyster Gates or simply Syn, is an American musician, best known for being the lead guitarist of the heavy metal band Avenged Sevenfold.

Early life

Haner attended Mayfair High School in Lakewood, but he later transferred and graduated from Ocean View High School in Huntington Beach, California.
He studied at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood as part of the GIT program, studying jazz guitar. After six or so months of being there, he got a phone call from The Rev asking him if he wanted to join the band as lead guitarist. Haner joined rather than continuing his education and becoming a studio musician. Up until that time he was primarily self-taught by watching music videos and reading books. His father, Brian Haner, Sr., is a songwriter and guitarist.

 Avenged Sevenfold

Gates joined Avenged Sevenfold when he was 18 at the end of 1999, right before the recording of the band's first album, Sounding the Seventh Trumpet. He was featured on the EP "Warmness on the Soul", and on the reissue of the band's first album.
Gates became the band's official lead guitarist. After Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, the band has released 4 studio albums: Waking the Fallen, City of Evil, Avenged Sevenfold, Nightmare and a live DVD/CD Live in the LBC & Diamonds in the Rough.
On the Avenged Sevenfold DVD All Excess, Gates claimed that his name was created on a drunken drive through the park with The Rev.
He has won numerous awards, including the 2006 Metal Hammer "Young Shredder" award and the 2006 Total Guitar Magazine "Guitarist of the Year."
M. Shadows stated in a YouTube in the studio video, Gates wrote the song "So Far Away" for Nightmare, in honor of his friend and bandmate The Rev, who died in December 2009.

 Pinkly Smooth

Haner, along with The Rev, played in an avant-garde metal band named Pinkly Smooth. Formed in the summer of 2001 in Huntington Beach, California, the band featured ex-Ballistico members Buck Silverspur on bass and D-Rock on drums. The band has released one album, Unfortunate Snort on Bucktan Records, which features a crossover sound of mostly punk, ska and avant-garde. Former Avenged Sevenfold bassist Justin Meacham played keyboards and piano on the album. There was speculation that Pinkly Smooth was going to produce another record, but due to the death of The Rev, it is highly unlikely that they will produce any more material.

Jimmy Sullivan, 'The Rev', Avenged Sevenfold's drummer death, autopsy, funeral, and memorial

Jimmy Sullivan, "The Rev" and beloved drummer for Avenged Sevenfold died on December 28th at the age of 28.  He leaves behind his wife Leana Silver and many very sad fans. Jimmy Sullivan's autopsy was ruled inconclusive, which means that it will be a few weeks before toxicology reports are issued before we know a true cause of death.
Still yet, there are some rumors as to why the drummer died.  For instance, an issue of Revolver Magazine ran a story that revealed alleged drug use on behalf of "The Rev."  Whether or not illegal or prescription drugs played a role in his death is uncertain.
Although funeral arrangements have not been publicly announced, the following memorials have been made for the drummer.
The official Avenged Sevenfold band Web site issued the following statement from the band:
"It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we tell you of the passing today of Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan. Jimmy was not only one of the world's best drummers, but more importantly he was our best friend and brother. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jimmy's family and we hope that you will respect their privacy during this difficult time."
Papa Roach, a band that toured with Avenged Sevenfold and came to Nashville tweeted: "This is a sad day for rock and roll. RIP, Jimmy 'Rev' Sullivan. You will be greatly missed, my friend."
Buckcherry, another band that was seen at the Sommet Center with a7x Tweeted "The Rev... You will be missed. Rest in peace, our brother from the road. The entire A7X family is in our thoughts."
"The Rev" will be sadly missed by many. He is known as one of the best drummers in rock and the band will not be the same without him. May he rest in peace.
